How to Color Code Your Day Planner for Success!

Have you ever felt like some days just seem to get away from you and you can't get anything checked off of your to-do list?

When I start to feel like this, the first thing I do is go back to tracking my time. It's so simple and quick to do, I use an easy highlighting system to pin point where I'm spending or "wasting" my time.

"Plan for Balance by Balancing Your Plan."

Being mindful of where and how you’re spending your time is easy to "see" when you COLOR CODE your days!

I can quickly see the areas that are lacking attention and I can make sure I’m spending time doing the things that are most important! I find that my days run a lot smoother and I feel more accomplished when they are "balanced".

Here's How You Can Create Your Own Color-Code System in 3 Simple Steps:

1. Brainstorm All Possible Categories: Take some time to think about all of the different responsibilities and things you do on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. Once you have your list, group them into like categories. Try to keep the categories broad like the example on the opposite page or it may become overwhelming.

2. Assign Colors & Create Your Key: Once you have your 6 broad categories, choose which of each color resonates best with each of your chosen categories. Tape or glue your key into your planner for easy access, you may need to reference it often until it becomes second nature. You can revise and change your categories and colors as your season of life and priorities change.

3. Putting Your System into Practice: It may take a little time and practice to get the hang of it, but it will be so worth the extra time and energy. Just imagine flipping through your planner and quickly identifying all of the prayers that God has answered, or all of the fun family activities you’ve experienced. Use it as a tool to help visually organize your days and your life!

Here are the categories that I am currently color coding and focusing on:

Spiritual

Personal

Priorities

Health

Household

Finance

(Our gel highlighters will not bleed through your planner or bible pages! You can find out more about them HERE!)

I'd love to hear from you! How do you keep up with where and how you’re spending your time?!?! How do you make the most of the time you have each day?!?!

It's time to prepare and plan for a new month ahead! Be sure to take a little time to set up and fill in your monthly dashboard page as I have above. Use it as a guiding light and a focus for the month of April that you can come back to as a reminder each day. Take some time in prayer to seek what areas God wants you to work on or prioritize.....then write them down to help you stay on track.
